IBM

IBM acquired a London-based software development company with 220 employees, located on one site, in four separate buildings. Atkins has been given the challenge of relocating the entire company in one move to IBM's London HQ at Southbank.

Atkins has taken responsibility for providing project management, M&E design, project planning, cost planning and risk management services.
IBM FM are providing space planning, IT/data assets and furniture and it is also Atkins' role to coordinate all aspects of the move.

A key challenge to the relocation team - led first by Mark Constable in the early feasibility stages and now by Reid Whitelaw in detailed design and implementation - is to ensure a minimum of disruption to the internal business units involved and to manage any people issues, support the IBM PM and the whole project through its various stages.

IBM has its own project stages and clearly defined roles and a small Project Board will sit and advise on all aspects of the project and assist the project team to achieve its goal. IBM space planners are currently allocating areas to the various businesses and business units and the design works for power, IT and cooling requirements are well under way. Relocations of existing IBM staff are planned and work will commence shortly in providing the facilities needed to suit the individual business needs.
